Bear Facts about Our Wild Stars

Bear front paw

Romania has the largest brown bear population in Europe o, over 6800 individuals and population number is gradually rising, especially that the bears are a protected specie !!

Brasov is the perfect area for bearwatching

Brașov and the surrounding areas has the largest bear population density in Romania, so spotting bears in the wild comes with high chances of success.

Why people are atracted to bears?

No other creature on Earth gives this hypnotic sensation of following it everywhere it goes underneath the canopy. Watching a bear from a distance and in quietness and in natural is pleasant and almost magical experience. Some people cherish them , some people fear them. It is a once in a lifetime experience ! For sure, will change human perception about these gentle giants.

How brown bears adapt to climate change and environment changes?

The morphology of brown bears had changed little since the last Ice Age, so some specialists include this charismatic giant as being a carnivore. In reality, bears had made a giant adaptation leap by changing their diet from meat eater and scavenger to almost an exclusively diet,  so brown bears are true omnivores. Evolution by context will say if this giant will be changing also his physical morphology in the next 10 000 years. There is also the chance that his diet will be a temporary adaptation while bears will ,,wait,, for humans to go extinct and wildlife to repopulate Europe. What do You think?

How everything started for this experience?

Our wildlife enthusiasm about organizing tours started around 12 years ago when Cosmin Z., guide manager, forestry engineer and founder of Myosotique Wild, dared to implement the Bear watching program in Brașov for the Local Wildlife Administration.

Why joining the tour ?

Foresters , my colegues, recieved the news with shock and scepticism . Since then, we have learned a lot by surveying and monitoring the bears and sharing knowledge about wildlife management for our guests. I think this bear watching is the only suistainable financial activity for these gentle giants , in contrast for hunting activity. A big hug and a great thank You for supporting the bears by joining the tour!

More Details about the Bear Watching Visit

The visit will begin by picking You up from Brașov in the afternoon-evening  for a drive into the forest in a rural area East from Brasov , where the Carpathin arch makes a curve.

On the way, the guide will present details about the bear management in Romania and will give information about the bears in the area.

A short walk in the forest will conduct us to the specially designed observatories, tracking in the meantime the passing wildlife (deer, wild boars, foxes, bears or even wolves or people). Observatioes are build like real small cabanas with large windows, where You can photograph and film the arriving bears!

It will be  a two to tree hours waiting game and observation, statistics showing around 80% chances to spot bears. There will be silence and green and forest but there is no time to read a book. Your wildlife guide will keep You focus so time will simply fly!

Our return  takes place before dark and will end by dropping You back in Brașov.

The bear visit is safe and we didn’t have a single aggressive display in 6 Years. We hope to keep it that way and, for additional safety, the guide has a pepper spray or sometimes armed guard is assured. Our knowledge about bears is our trust and our group member quality is our advantage!

The visit is suitable for all travelers all ages, including families with kids, couples and seniors. Disabilities persones are welcomed in seperate groups with special preparationsand notice if needed.
